Make-Up. Ohhh My Goodness How I LOVE It!
I began wearing make-up as a teen, as so many of us did. I had horrible, horrible skin (it is still my biggest battle!) and so I was thrilled when I was finally of age! Little did I realize, the fifteen year old me was doing myself no favors as I ran to the local drug store and grabbed whatever was on sale. Needless to say, I began what would become a vicious cycle of using make-up that only made my skin problem worse and then HAVING to wear that same make-up to cover the damage! Not Good!
My mother is NOT a make-up person – she only wears lipstick and maybe a little blush on Sunday! And I have three older brothers who taught me to perfect a mean spiral football pass but needless to say they were NO help on the girlie end of life! But as time went on I did a little investigating and with the guidance of one of my best friends, made the move toward products that were not only pretty but also improved my skin as a whole. Hallelujah!
A Firm Foundation
I have tried so many foundation and powder products over the years. Today I’d like to share one that I have been using for over 20 years – Estee Lauder Double Wear (Linked Below).
Double Wear is one of the BEST and one that I always seem to go back to when I go off on a bunny trail with a new kid on the block! This foundation comes in a large selection of colors which is great and prevents you from looking like a stranger from the neck up!!
If your local department store carries the brand, drop by their counter and have them use their amazing I-Match Digital Shade Finder to help select your perfect shade. This gizmo is pretty amazing (I was actually kinda skeptical) and matched my color to perfection.
They simply use the device to take a color reading on three different facial locations – usually the neck, chin and forehead. It calculates your color by finding all the undertones in your skin and then recommends what Estee Lauder color would be the best match for you. It’s just that easy and takes less than a minute. I am one ghostly lady but I have a lot of yellow undertones. The I-Match chose Sand #1W2 as my color match. My beauty consultant, Donna, who was such a sweetheart, pulled the foundation in my color match plus three or four other close colors just so I would be a Believer. I was pleasantly surprised when I realized that the I-Match Shade Finder had done its job. It Was Color Perfect!!
Estee Lauder DoubleWear Foundation gives such great coverage and sets to a beautiful, soft matte finish. I often skip using a powder at all, which – as we age – helps keep make-up from settling into creases, making us look overdone and years older than we are! Remember, make-up should enhance who we are – not erase who we are! And we certainly don’t want to magnify those tiny lines!!
Got something to hide????! Estee Lauder offers Double Wear Stay-In-Place Flawless Wear Concealer and it Absolutely ROCKS! This is the answer when you want to completely “remove” those dark circles that tend to take over due to long hours or late nights (the good ones and the bad ones!) !! And, true to its name, this concealer doesn’t wander away as your day comes to an end . . . you’ll look rested and refreshed, even when you’re not!! (Is that a good thing?? Haha!)
I would say this foundation and concealer are in the medium range as far as pricing goes BUT the thing I love about Estee Lauder is that often they offer a FREE GIFT Promotion!! Hey girl! Thank you for sharing.I have loved make up since I was old enough to wear it! I am a Clinique gal ( sister make up to Estee Lauder). I must admit I have switched to IT cosmetics CC foundation all in 1 since my fun with skin cancer.But am true to Clinique skin care.I would love to see your application tips,especially your eyes & brows. I have yet to find brow color that looks natural,and when ‘make up stylist’ apply it just looks so fake. You know I mentioned before, I feel the 50ish crowd tends to get placed in the ‘less is more old & tired’ group.

Hey Barb, I use that same foundation. I was just thinking today though that I need to go to the Estee Lauder counter and get them to color match me because what I am currently wearing is too dark. I do have a question though. Do you need to be foundation free when they do the I-Match? Thank you, I love your makeup posts!

Hey, I feel a bit left out here!! Haha, just kidding. I don’t wear much makeup, but for photo shoots and days when I feel (and look) like a zombie, there’s a bunch of primers, concealers and foundations going on and I’ve tried more brands than my mom probably ever has, haha. One brand I haven’t tried is Estee Lauder however and being affordable, but putting myself in your expert hands believing they’re still very good makes me want to try them out too!
