When Susan G. Komen asked me to be a partner in their campaign I was thrilled! Honestly, the timing could not have been better as I am entering month ten of my own breast cancer journey!
I began to think about who The One Person would be that I would hope to see least affected by breast cancer and I must admit. . . I IMMEDIATELY CAME TO MIND!! Right now, in this season, I Am My “One”!!
I want to see breast cancer OBLITERATED!! I want to be strong and healthy for my family! I want to live in a time where this terrible fear no longer wreaks havoc!! I want to watch my children thrive! I long to be here -at my best, to see them marry and to meet my future grandchildren!! I want to protect my children from the effects of breast cancer by taking the best possible care of myself in and beyond this cancer journey!
Did you know that women in the United States have a 1 in 8 lifetime risk of being diagnosed with breast cancer (think about THAT the next time you’re having a fun GNO with your gal pals!!). And breast cancer is the 2nd most common cause of cancer death among all women in the United States, second only to lung cancer. Ladies, I seriously don’t like those statistics!!
So I’m sure you can understand, breast cancer has become a very personal subject for me. I am extremely passionate about it and so is Susan G. Komen!
Susan G. Komen is an amazing organization that works to understand, prevent and treat particularly the most aggressive and deadly breast cancers, so that those affected can live better lives, longer. They then take that fact-based information to empower people to make informed decisions about their breast health. And take it from me, when it comes to your health, having an advocate who understands your needs is absolutely priceless.
